Percent isn't an official Common Core Grade 5 standard — it formally arrives in Grade 6 (6.RP.A.3.c) — but most curriculums introduce it in late Grade 5 because it sits naturally next to decimals and fractions. A child who's just learned that 0.5 = 1/2 is one tiny step away from learning that both equal 50%. Getting this introduction in Grade 5 makes Grade 6 ratio work much easier.

Is percent in the Common Core for Grade 5?+
Not formally — percents start in Grade 6 (6.RP.A.3.c). But most curriculums introduce them in late Grade 5 alongside decimals.
How do you convert a fraction to a percent?+
Convert the fraction to a decimal first (divide numerator by denominator), then multiply the decimal by 100. So 3/4 = 0.75 = 75%.
What's 25% of 80?+
25% means 1/4. So 25% of 80 is 80 ÷ 4 = 20. The 'of' usually means multiply.
Why teach percents alongside fractions and decimals?+
Because they're the same idea in three notations. Children who see all three together build a stronger number sense than children who learn them as separate topics.
