Grade 3 Telling Time Worksheets — Free Printable PDF
Free Grade 3 telling time worksheets — time to the nearest minute, elapsed time, schedule problems. Common Core 3.MD.A.1 aligned.
Grade 3 telling time finishes the analogue clock once and for all. Where Grade 2 ended at five-minute intervals, Grade 3 reads to the nearest minute — meaning the child has to count individual minute marks between the hour numbers. It's the last fundamental clock skill, and it should feel automatic by end of Grade 3.
But the bigger Grade 3 time topic is elapsed time. 'A movie starts at 2:35 and ends at 4:10. How long is the movie?' These problems require subtracting time, which doesn't work like subtracting numbers (because time is base 60, not base 10). Our sheets include elapsed time within the hour, across the hour, and within a day, building gradually so the child has time to absorb the base-60 weirdness.
Pair with the Time Teller game. Real-world reinforcement (TV times, mealtimes) is the best practice you can give. Free, classroom use allowed.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the Grade 3 standard?+
Common Core 3.MD.A.1 — telling time to the nearest minute and solving word problems involving elapsed time.
What's elapsed time?+
The amount of time between two events. 'From 2:35 to 4:10 is 1 hour 35 minutes' is an elapsed time calculation.
Why is elapsed time hard?+
Time uses base 60, not base 10. So 2:35 + 35 minutes ISN'T 2:70 — it's 3:10. That mental adjustment is what trips kids up.
Are these printable for free?+
Yes — every Grade 3 telling time sheet is free to download, print and copy.
