Grade 1 Addition Worksheets — Free Printable PDF
Free Grade 1 addition worksheets — add within 20, doubles, near doubles and missing addends. Common Core 1.OA aligned. Instant PDF download.
Grade 1 is the year addition becomes pure number work. The pictures fall away, the equation format takes over, and children are expected to find sums within 20 — first by counting, then by recall. The leap from 'I count to find the answer' to 'I just know it' happens for most children somewhere in Grade 1, and worksheets are the main fuel for that leap.
Our Grade 1 addition sheets cover the full 1.OA progression: adding within 10, then within 20, doubles facts, near-doubles, making 10, missing addend problems, and the introduction of the commutative property. We also include 'word problem' sheets so children practise pulling the sum out of a sentence — a skill some Grade 1 kids struggle with even after they're fluent in pure equations.
Use these alongside our Math Addition game for fluency drills, or alongside Math Quiz for mixed practice. Free to print, free to copy for class, no paywall.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the highest sum a Grade 1 child needs to know?+
By the end of Grade 1, students should be fluent with addition facts within 20, with the goal of recall (not counting) for sums within 10.
What's a doubles fact?+
An addition fact where both addends are the same: 4 + 4, 6 + 6, etc. These are easier for children to memorise and act as anchors for other facts.
Are word problems included?+
Yes. Several sheets focus specifically on Grade 1 addition word problems — a key 1.OA.A.1 standard.
Are answer keys provided?+
Yes — every sheet includes an answer key for parents and teachers.
