At preschool age, counting is mostly a physical skill: a finger touching each picture, a voice saying the number out loud. The worksheet itself is just an excuse to do that finger-and-voice routine fifteen times in a row. That's why preschool counting sheets work — not because they teach a concept, but because they create the reps.

These printables start with rows of three or four objects (apples, balloons, ducks) and a circle for the right number. They build slowly to counting up to ten and then to twenty, with mixed-object pages that force the child to look carefully instead of guessing. The artwork is deliberately big and clear because preschool eyes are still learning to track objects on a page.

Print a sheet, sit next to your 3 or 4 year old, point to each picture, count aloud together. Pair it with our free Counting Stars game on those days when sitting still feels impossible. Every sheet is free, classroom-friendly, and copy-as-many-as-you-need.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age are these counting worksheets for?+

These are designed for ages 3–5 — typical preschool. The easiest sheets work for 2 year olds who can already point to objects.

Do my child need to know numbers before doing these?+

No. The earliest sheets just ask the child to count objects out loud and circle the right group. Reading numerals comes later.

How many sheets should we do per session?+

One or two is plenty for preschool. Counting sheets are about quality reps, not quantity. Stop while it's still fun.

Are these aligned to a specific curriculum?+

They cover the standard preschool counting expectations used in most US, UK and Canadian early-years programs.
